The category of shame is broader than the word suggests. Shame deals with anything that has to do with the self:
guilt, shame, failure, humiliation, et cetera. It's usually involving self-dislike, pride, and the like.
But, I find failure different. Its not shame, more of loss.
Mike:
Pain is perspective. If you think your in pain, no matter how illogical, its pain
If you're feeling failure, that may lead to an inadequacy you see in yourself. If you do not feel shamed, then you are being betrayed (betrayed by fate: "It's not fair!" is loosely thrown in the direction of no one, thus fate) or feeling loss "losing something important, a bond: your ability). So honestly, it could go in several categories, so when I say failure in "shame", I mean the feeling of inadequacy.
There's a metasystem of pain in my list that I haven't got through, and the multiple looks on failure are testament to that. If you guys want to fill that out as well, go the hell ahead. Here are the words I've chosen to represent each group:
Trepidus
fear, horror, trepidation, shock, anxiety
Animosus
Empathy, sympathy
Solus
loneliness
Interitus
Loss
Desertus
Betrayed, sudden change, challenged
Dedecus
shame, inadequacy, guilt
